How To Measure Your Penis ?

The ideals of male beauty have changed a little through the course of history. Before, an attractive male is defined as someone who's tall, long-legged, muscular, strong-jawed, wide-set eyes, elegant nose, and head-full of thick hair. At present, the beauty standard for men have remained the same in every aspect except for one thing -- manhood. Whereas the current society is all for men who are well-hung, it's the exact opposite with the ancient world. This might sound unbelievable but it is true -- ancient people view big penises as monstrous and comical.

Too Big, Or Not Too Big

Nowadays, however, the modern world has somewhat turned from being phallophobic to phallocentric. Men's ceaseless fascination for penile enhancement and the booming industry for penile enlargement products are a proof that the present era believes in the clichéd phrase that big is always better. Of course, this is despite the assurances of many sexologists that the size of a man's penis is not an indication of his masculinity, sexuality, and performance.

Regardless of what men might pick from shows like "Sex and the City" about women preferring guys who are "blessed," the truth is that only a small number of women are fascinated by big penises.  Yet despite of this, guys still think that having a bigger penis makes them more attractive and sexier to the female demographic. Thus, it is safe to say that men who are hung are generally more confident about themselves than those who has, say, an average-sized penis.

The Average Joe

Guys who used to comparing themselves to other guys in the locker room might be surprised to know that most guys consider themselves "short." By short, it means that they don't fall in the “average” category. But what exactly is the average penis size?

Through the years, a good number of people have dedicated their lives to finding out the average penis size. Among these people is Alfred C. Kinsey, a well-known sexologist. Eager to determine what the average penis size is, Kinsey enlisted the help of 3,500 college guys to serve as the subjects of his study. In his study, Kinsey found out that the average length of an erect penis is 6.21 inches, while the average girth is 4.85 inches.

However, Kinsey is not the only one who conducted a scientific study on the average penile size. The Journal of Urology and the International Journal of Impotence have also published the results of their own studies. The former concluded that the average length of the penis is 5.08 inches, while the latter determined that the average erect penile length is 5.35 inches. Even though all these studies concurred on basically the same general conclusion that an average penis length is between 5.5 and 6.5 inches and that the average circumference is between 4.5 and 5.5 inches, it cannot be denied that there have been discrepancies with the results. These discrepancies are actually the result of incorrect measurements by the subjects, who either tend to exaggerate their penile size or flat out lie about the real dimension of their manhood.

Measuring It Up

Even if it is not for academic study purposes, properly measuring your penis is a knowledge that will come in handy for most men. For one, knowing the correct way to measure your penis will save you from all the guesswork and the anxiety over your real penis size. Second, if you have intentions to increase the size of your manhood, knowing how to measure it will let you know if the products you're using actually works.

One thing to note about measuring your penis is that there are a number of factors that can affect its size like sexual activity and temperature. Therefore, to get the accurate size of your penis, you should measure when your manhood will be least affected by these factors. Furthermore, being consistent with the way you measure your penis is also another important thing to note, most especially if you are under a penile enlargement program and you like to compare its before-and-after effects.

So how do you properly measure your penis? The first and most important step is to get your penis into an erectile state by stimulation. Keep in mind that your penis must be fully or maximally erect for you to be able to measure it correctly. Once your penis reached its maximum erection, you should stand so that your penile shaft is parallel to the ground. You can prop your penis by your hand, but be cautious not to stretch or lengthen it as this would be cheating. With a use of a ruler, measure the entire length of your penis from the base to the tip. The base of your penis would be the skin just below your belly. Most experts recommend that you press the ruler until its end touches your pubic bone. This is supposed to give you a more accurate measurement of your length. While holding the ruler against your penis, read the nearest inch measurement at its tip.

Length is not the only thing measured with penises; the circumference or girth is also as important. To measure your penile girth, you would need a string to do it. Same as in measuring your penile length, you also have to be in an erectile state. You should wrap the string around the middle of your penis and take note of the spot where it first touched itself. Laying the string against a ruler, measure its length to the nearest inch. Remember to write down both measurements in your record book so you would not forget it. Lastly, don't try to measure your penile size while lying down as this often leads to unreliable and inaccurate results.
